8 Things You Need to Know About Trump’s Executive Order on Immigration, Refugees. Complete Text.

As usual, scores of people are freaking out about the latest thing Trump did. Today the average trendy liberal thinks that the President just banned Muslims from the U.S. That’s not true, but don’t tell the left, they really want to believe it.

Shapiro notes:

“Priority Is Given To Victims of Religious-Based Persecution. The media has labeled the order Islamophobic based on this provision, but here’s what it actually says:

Upon the resumption of USRAP admissions, the Secretary of State, in consultation with the Secretary of Homeland Security, is further directed to make changes, to the extent permitted by law, to prioritize refugee claims made by individuals on the basis of religious-based persecution, provided that the religion of the individual is a minority religion in the individual’s country of nationality. Where necessary and appropriate, the Secretaries of State and Homeland Security shall recommend legislation to the President that would assist with such prioritization.”

Here’s the deal with the Executive Order concerning Refugees: It’s effectively a temporary travel ban for refugees coming from certain conflict zones in the Middle-East. There’s nothing in there about ‘not letting Muslims in’, and it looks like the Trump White House is internally struggling over how to be as inclusive as possible within their guidelines, managing to look completely incompetent as they do it. What most people don’t realize is that the most targeted and discriminated religious group in the Middle-East is Christians. Despite this, the Obama administration went out of their way to make sure 98% of the Syrian refugees brought here were Muslim, in other words, actual religious discrimination. More info below.

Ratio of Christian / Muslim Refugees:

Global Christian Persecution:

Regional Christian Persecution:

As a non-believer, I don’t feel any sympathy toward Christians or Muslims on a religious basis. In a purely secular way of thinking it seems rational that the groups that are targeted for extermination should at least be statistically represented if any refugees are brought in to any country.

The most frustrating about this dialogue is that there is a large population in the U.S. that will go on insisting that Trump’s Order is ‘Islamophobic’, ‘racist’, ‘tyrannical’. Now, first off, there’s no language in the order about ‘banning Muslims’. Second, Islam is not a race, it’s a religion. Third, let’s not forget that Obama had a travel ban on Iraqi citizens for six months, or that Carter had a travel ban on Iran. Were those bans tyrannical, Islamophobic, and racist too? Or is it just Trump-phobia we’re dealing with at this point?

Look, I’m not a huge fan of the Donald and here’s a tip for the left: just remember that overreacting to everything Trump does is a real good way to get him reelected.

View From the Canoe: A Cool Blog About One Man’s Journeys Through the Waterways

View From the Canoe has been around for quite a while. This guy cruises around in his canoe and takes pictures of all the things he finds, then writes about it. It’s charming. He used to live near Seattle, but I believe he moved to the east coast. One time, he even found a dirtberg in Lake Washington.
